Chromecast is a thumb-sized media streaming device that plugs into your smart TV, using the HDMI port and an USB powered port.
To control it you can use either an Android phone, tablet, iPhone, iPad, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook.
Why would you want it?
So you can view multimedia on a big screen rather than on your smaller device.
How it works?
The ChromeCast dongle uses a WIFI connection to communicate with different devices.
Anything that you can view in the Google Chrome browser can be displayed onto the TV.
In my case, I opened google Chrome and went to google play. I rented a movie, then used the Google Chrome plugin “Google Cast” to display that movie onto my TV so I could watch it with my family.
Here’s a handy tip:
If you have multimedia files on your computer, open the file with the Google Chrome browser.
How much is it?
Currently $49 from JBHIFI.
